Fantasy on Five German Folk Songs

In Fantasy on Five German Folk Songs, Luxembourg composer Georges Sadeler transforms five well-known German folk songs into individual atmospheric sound worlds.“Kein schöner Land” opens the suite in a dance-like, nature-inspired mood, followed by the mysterious and floating character of “Der Mond ist aufgegangen”. “Ännchen von Tharau” appears as a light and charming waltz, while “Die Gedanken sind frei” unfolds as a meditative and open musical space. The finale, “Guten Abend, gut’ Nacht”, surprises with a playful, Balkan-inspired rhythm before gently coming to rest. The result is a vivid musical journey through reimagined folk traditions.

This work was commissioned by Daniel Ridder in a version for solo tuba with piano/saxophone quartet.
